Grief is a feeling that many individuals are not familiar with until they experience it firsthand. It can feel overwhelming and disorienting, likened to being unprepared for a significant fall. The death of a loved one introduces an unfamiliar and challenging situation. This is a universal experience during one's lifetime, yet culturally we often lack education on how to manage or discuss grief.
When experiencing loss, it is important to grieve what was in order to integrate what can be. While the concept of 5 stages of grief is commonly taught, real-life experiences of loss do not adhere to a set timeline. Grief is an organic process and can manifest in various ways, from disbelief and sadness to profound devastation. It requires adjustment to a new reality without the loved one. Although life changes significantly, it is possible to eventually create meaningful and fulfilling lives.
Through professional and personal experience, I have dedicated myself to specializing in grief support, offering compassionate assistance to those affected by loss.
In grief counseling sessions, we will work together to address a range of emotions, feelings, and reactions. Common questions explored include concerns about moving forward and finding happiness again. The loss of a loved one can lead to role changes, such as becoming a single parent or living alone. It often impacts daily functioning, leading to feelings of loneliness, forgetfulness, and changes in sleep and eating patterns. Grief counseling aims to help navigate this difficult journey, fostering a grounded path towards healing while honoring the loved one. Together, we will develop strategies to cope and find joy, hope, and healing.
I offer support through individual counseling sessions as well as community Grief Groups. Reaching out for help can be challenging after a loss. Take your time and connect with me when you are ready. 480.848.1534
